About Chalet J'Elage...
Tucked away in a quiet close of just five properties at the foot of the mountains, Chalet J'Elage is a great place for a family holiday in the Alps, whatever the time of year.
It's a short drive (or a 15-minute walk) to the village of Saint Jean de Sixt, where there are several shops, including a popular bakery, sports hire shops, delicatessen, post office, supermarket, bar and restaurants. Despite its quiet location, it's not far from the main road which links La Clusaz to Le Grand Bornand, and it's just a 30-minute drive to Annecy and less than an hour to Geneva airport.
The property ...
This comfortable chalet sleeps 10 (maximum 8 adults) and is perfect for a young family (or even two!). There's a lovely flat garden and plenty of books, DVDs and games to keep everyone entertained when you're not enjoying the great outdoors, which is right on your doorstep.
As you enter the lobby area, there's a ski room and utility room with washer and dryer, where outdoor gear can be left to dry ready for the next day.
In the living area, cosy sofas piled with cushions are arranged around the large wood-burning fire, built in local stone. Patio doors open on to a large decked area and garden, which has an unusual semi-circular seating area perfect for enjoying the sunset or a barbecue. The kitchen and dining area are also open plan, so cooking and eating together is a sociable affair. There's a shower room here too, and a bedroom with two sets of bunks and a nautical theme that kids will adore.
There are three more bedrooms upstairs, one with a super king size bed. The other two rooms each have a king-size bed, which can be turned into a set of 2 singles, plus a double bed settee so that families can all be together if they prefer. Two of the bedrooms open on to a spacious balcony with a table and chairs where you can sit and enjoy the view of the Aravis mountains, while the third bedroom looks out towards the beautiful Plateau de Glieres. The large family bathroom has a bath with shower over and two basins, and the toilet is separate.
About the area ...
Whether you've got young or older beginners in your ski party, Chalet J'Elage is the perfect place to help them find their ski legs.
Chalet J'Elage is right in the heart of some great skiing. Halfway between La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand ski resorts (both just 10 minutes drive away), you can ski somewhere new every day.
The Aravis ski pass also covers the Manigod area, giving you 220km of pistes of varying levels to explore, as well as extensive off-piste action. Nordic skiers will discover plenty of trails from St Jean de Sixt - in fact there's a 7km trail just behind the chalet.
There's a free sledging run behind the town hall too!. Non-skiers can go ice skating or swimming in La Clusaz, where the heated indoor and outdoor pools are open all year round, or try snowshoeing, sledging, dog-sledding and sleigh rides and the exciting ski-joering - skiing while being towed by a horse! After all that excitement why not enjoy some pampering at one of the two spas in La Clusaz - you've earned it!
There's plenty to do here in the spring and summer too. St Jean de Sixt is one of only two places in the world where you can try Bun-J ride, a cross between ski jumping and bungee jumping! It's open all year round. Other more traditional pastimes are available too - marked footpaths crisscross the mountains, many starting right from your front door, or you can explore by mountain bike - take the lift to the top of the mountain then come back down at your own pace.
There are a number of mountain farms within a walk of the chalet, where you can see the local Reblochon cheese being made - you'll come away with a delicious treat for the walk back! Cool off at the swimming pool complexes in Le Grand Bornand, La Clusaz and Thônes, or if you're looking for something a little more challenging, there's a climbing school, via ferrata routes, tree-top adventure parks, canyoning, white-water rafting, horse-riding, karting and paragliding all nearby.
If you like the sound of a holiday at Chalet J'Elage, check your dates. We’ll hold it for 24 hours while you make up your mind! But don’t wait too long, with so much going for it, this OVO Network property is sure to get booked up quickly.

The OVO Network Review
“The owners have set the chalet up with everything required for their guests to have an easy and enjoyable family holiday experience.”
Chalet J’Elage is a 4 bedroom 2 bathroom chalet for 10 (max 8 adults) spread over two floors and 130m2 of floor space.
The owners have spent many happy holidays at the chalet with their own children, and have set the chalet up with everything required for their guests to have an easy and enjoyable family holiday experience.
With a lovely large flat lawn, an unusual semi-circlular stone bench, dining table, sunbeds and a table tennis table out of doors, this property works as well in summer as it works in winter. The garden is open to the access road for the 5 chalets close by, not a main road.
Children can find space to play or read in the cute ensuite bunk room on the ground floor - the upstairs bedrooms are spacious and two have cosy sofa’s too. That leaves plenty of room for the adults to relax in peace and quiet downstairs!
Although not in a village, the chalet is within a 15 minute walk of St Jean de Sixt, gateway to Grand Bornand and La Clusaz. There are plenty of shops, supermarkets, and restaurants within easy reach by car. You can buy milk direct from the farm a short walk away.
That is all extra of course to the magnificent Aravis ski resorts of La Clusaz and Grand Bornand.
With many positive reviews from very happy summer and winter guests alike, especially from families, and, a 4 star rating from the local official classification body there is plenty to enjoy at Chalet J’Elage. In particular we know from feedback that guests appreciate the well equipped kitchen, the extra homely deco touches, and good comfy beds.

From the Owner
There are some places in the world where the pace of your life slows immediately
In 1995 we found ourselves bringing up three young children (aged 3, 4 and 6) in central London. We were desperate to find a balance to their urban life in the school holidays. Having searched for two years all over France, we still hadn't found anywhere where we could see ourselves spending all our school holidays. And then we took the children on their first skiing holiday.
We wanted somewhere with minimal travel time once we landed at the airport, somewhere that felt truly 'French' and that had a charm and tradition about it. A place where the children as beginners would be well catered for but also somewhere with good, challenging skiing for us whilst they were in ski school. We found La Clusaz. We found love! We found somewhere we could picture ourselves being happy every month of the year.
After one magical holiday in the February, we came back for three crazy days the following month and looked at 20 properties in the area. Chalet J'Elage was the first property we saw straight off the 'red eye', but it became the benchmark for everywhere else that we looked at. By the exhausted end of day 3 we phoned the agency on the way back to Geneva airport and made an offer - that's the sort of crazy thing you do when it's love at first sight. After a couple of days of back and forwards a deal was done on one proviso. We had to sign the compromis - the French exchange contract - by Monday. The day was Friday. You really, really have to be in love to move a mountain that big in that small amount of time but somehow or other the compromis was signed at 1645 on Monday 14th March 2005. And then the completion on Friday 17th June. We had found our retreat. We had found our antidote to London life. And so for nearly 10 glorious years, Chalet J'Elage has been at the heart of our family and also has lived in our hearts whilst we are back in our 'real life'. It has brought us joy, excitement, adventure, intimacy and memories by the bucketful. We have shared our special place with friends and family alike and have celebrated the fact that our home has affected all who stay there in exactly the same way - they don't want to leave, they eagerly look forward to returning. The children's friends have visited and in turn they have persuaded their families to holiday in beautiful Aravis and somehow, imperceptibly, Chalet J'Elage and this perfect corner of the Alps, had crept into the hearts of far more than just the five of us. And now it's time to share the chalet with a wider group - with people we don't know. But somehow, the knowledge that others will be affected by the chalet in the way that we and our nearest and dearest have - will discover the soul enriching essence of the mountains and lake alike - makes that a happy and exciting prospect. May you enjoy our stylish, contemporary and well-appointed home but above all, the intrinsic atmosphere and essence of Chalet J'Elage*. Happy Holidays. * For the curious amongst you, we share with you that J'Elage is an name created from the first two letters of our children's names - George, Jack and Ella - so don't worry if you can't find it in your dictionary!

“Just like at home”
A superb family chalet. We felt right at home. The view is beautiful and the outside spaces are lovely in the summer. We really loved the cosy atmosphere in the chalet. St Jean de Sixt is an ideal base (between Thones, La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand) for exploring the area. We will definitely be back!

Excellent stay at Chalet J'Elage.
Well equipped and a real home from home.
Good location. Plenty of snow, blue skies and sun the whole week.
Only downside - we had to leave!!

“Unforgettable first steps in the mountains”
We had a superb week with our 14-month-old daughter and our two dogs. The chalet is very well equipped, especially for babies (high chair, cot, baby bath). We discovered this wonderful area on magnificent walks in the sunshine. We will never forget our daughter's first steps on the terrace!

“A very good holiday”
A very good stay apart from the unsettled weather, which we can't really forecast.
The chalet is well designed, well equipped and clean, and we received a very good welcome.
We felt instantly at home.
We loved the location of the chalet, the quietness, and the wide open spaces around it.

“The property had everything I needed”
Ideal property in a quiet location to enjoy cycling in the mountains. We enjoyed sitting by the fire. Also to be noted: the great bed linen !

“Our family holiday went without a hitch”
The chalet is in a very quiet spot, and was just as it was described on the website. Janelle, the manager, wrote to us to explain the checking in procedure. She is very welcoming and gave us all the information we needed for a great holiday. As parents of young children, we were particularly grateful for the cot, high chair and baby gate provided. Thanks, and well done to Janelle, who was very attentive.

“Nothing but good things to say about this chalet!”
Modern, well heated, spacious and very well equipped. The quality of the bed linen deserves a special mention. The pistes are less than 10 minutes away by car, St Jean de Sixt is perfectly located between La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand.

“We will be back”
We had a great family holiday in your beautiful chalet. What could be better than returning from skiing to an open fire! We had both snow and sunshine at this friendly ski station. Well done for the welcome and the practicality of the chalet. We will be back.
Chantal G. - 21/01/2017
The chalet is lovely and we got a very warm welcome. Interior deco is a great mix of mountain charm and modern equipment. We were 6 adults and 2 children and the place was perfect !! Activities in La Clusaz and around are great !

“Such a lovely chalet...”
We spent a wonderful week in your lovely chalet. Everything was perfect: bedrooms, kitchen, bathrooms (for a delicious bath after hiking). It's decorated with taste (at least to my taste !)and nothing was missing. I didn't know St Jean de Sixt. I found the village very pretty and close to the nearby resorts. We slpet really well in the spacious bedrooms, with big windows we left open to be woken up by the first light of the day (I loved it!). Although we had 3 days of rain, we came back regenarated from this holiday.
Chantal G. - 08/07/2016
“We had an unforgettable week. ”
We adored this beautiful chalet, the mountains and the activities in the area. We would recommend this property for the comfort and the location. We are thinking of coming back one day ...

“We had a great family holiday”
The decor is beautifully done and the level of equipment is comprehensive. Being near the sledge run for the children and the ski stations for the bigger ones meant everyone was happy.

“Comfy. Great welcome”
We had a great family holiday despite the lack of snow. The chalet is very comfortable and the welcome was great.
Anaïs D. - 26/12/2015
We enjoyed our stay in Chalet J'Elage. Comfort, excellent location, nice weather and perfect view: everything was there to spend a superb week in the chalet. Thank you so much.

“What a great holiday!”
The chalet is very welcoming and comfortable. The setting and outside space are ideal for children. We really appreciated the quiet surroundings and the magnificent view. In a few words: everything was perfect. We hope to come back soon. Thanks again, especially to Janelle the chalet manager.
Elisabeth M. - 11/04/2015
We, 2 parents and 6 adolescent kids (1 son and 5 friends!) experienced a wonderful time in J'Elage. The amount of snow made our arrival intersting, even with snow-chains, but the snow fall was exceptional. A beautiful, warm, hospitable chalet and a nice skiing area in La Clusaz with beautiful slopes. The car turned out very handy to reach the slopes, good parking facility in La Clusaz. We had a beautiful holiday, thank you!
Anneke G. - 21/02/2015
“Excellent homely luxury chalet”
We stayed for one week on a family ski-ing holiday in February 2015. The chalet was first class - charming,well- equipped, well-designed , stylish, spacious and comfortable. What impressed us most is the fact that the owners plainly use the chalet and there are many homely touches which set it apart from the standard "plain" accommodation which is often available. In the evenings we sat by the lovely roaring open fire and all enjoyed great nights' sleep! St Jean de Sixt has good amenities. We had a wonderful time and will return. We did not bring or rent a car and so walked each day to St Jean de Sixt to get the ski bus to La Clusaz. That was fine, just a bit tiring at the end of a day of hard ski-ing. We used the local supermarket "8 à 8" and the great little vegetable shop/grocers store. We cooked in every evening and the kitchen was very well-equipped. I can't really think of any constructive criticism. We really did enjoy your chalet.
Keith R. - 07/02/2015
“An amazing time in this home from home”
The views from every room are stunning and the sun-drenched decking area meant that we all picked up good après-ski tans! The roaring log fires kept us going through long nights of highly-competitive games of Risk and Monopoly and we really appreciated having our own ‘restaurant' night in with the raclette and fondue sets. One of our party is a cross-country skier and couldn’t believe they just stepped out into the garden and were straight on the main Nordic ski circuit in the area. All the details that go into a great stay had been thoroughly thought through and we just loved our time here.
Sean K. - 28/12/2014
“We're already thinking of coming back in summer...”
We had a good time and we found the chalet organized and functional. Also we'd like to give our best regards to Catherine the manager.

“I can’t wait to come back”
I have had a fantastic week at Chalet J’Elage. I really could not have hoped for a week more exciting, more beautiful or more delicious! The activities like VTT, mountain climbing, lake swimming, cliff diving, canyoning and God knows how many more, have been exhilarating and amazing. The beautiful part of this holiday has been the views from absolutely everywhere; the lake, the mountains, the chalet - all stunning. And then the delicious part. Wonderful local produce, markets bursting with treats and in particular spit roast chicken picnics lakeside and in mountain meadows are the stuff of dreams.
Charlie D. - 16/08/2014
“Another fabulous visit to St-Jean-de-Sixt”
A mixture of peace and quiet and family excitement. What a pleasure for all 3 generations to spend such happy times under one roof and in such stunning surroundings. The weather was glorious, every bend in the road produced another spectacular view and the freedom the children had to safely ‘play out’ at the chalet meant we all got to relax. We loved walking up to the Milk et Bouse Ferme at the end of the road to watch the cows being milked each day, then to buy their own produced cheese and then bring it back to the chalet to prepare raclette or fondue to eat in the garden. Mmmmmm!
Kath H. - 19/07/2014
My memories of this week are, in no particular order, fabulous chalet, fabulous food, fabulous fires, fabulous starry nights, fabulous mountains and lakes, fabulous comforts and most of all, fabulous fun.
Jennie S. - 21/06/2014
“All in all it was a perfect week”
How wonderful to bring both our children and our grandchildren to beautiful Chalet J’Elage. We all got on so well and the children loved the brilliant selection of books and toys and board games. Those that skied had a great time and fell in love with the area and how picturesque so many of the runs are. It was such a bonus having the mini slopes just 200 or 300 meters away, as the children could safely walk here each morning and practice what they did in their lessons, whilst the rest of us had a more leisurely start to the day! The restaurants that were recommended in the chalet pack were fantastic and we would never have known about several of them, as you clearly had to have ‘insider knowledge’ to find them.
Alex B. - 15/02/2014
When we arrived at Chalet J’Elage we couldn’t believe our luck, it was just perfect for our group and felt like we were cosseted in our own private retreat. When we did venture out from the peace and tranquility of the chalet, we were blown away by full-on and glorious ski-ing, amazing scenery and extensive non-ski-ing options. Thank you Chalet J’Elage. Oh yes, I almost forgot; a special mention has to go to the best bakery ever - Boulangerie Le Four à Bois in St-Jean. It is to die for.

Why La Clusaz?
Less than an hour from Geneva, La Clusaz offers Alpine action all year round. A traditional farming village, it not only offers great skiing and superb summer activities, but also a real community feel, whenever you visit. Great restaurants, bars and nightlife combine with local markets, festivals and traditions to give you the best of all worlds.
